She returned to SNL as a host in 2006, becoming the first former female cast member to host the show. Louis-Dreyfus has also gained critical acclaim and accolades for starring as Selina Meyer in the HBO political satire Veep , for which she also served as a producer, and earned six consecutive Primetime Emmy Awards. After Seinfeld, Louis-Dreyfus had a lead role in CBS's The New Adventures Of Old Christine from 2006 to 2010 and nabbed her first Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. Shortly afterward, she was cast as Elaine Benes in the Larry David-created '90s sitcom Seinfeld, which ran for nine seasons and garnered her a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy in 1996. ”Īfter leaving Saturday Night Live, Julia Louis-Dreyfus appeared in the movie Troll. I sort of applied the fun-meter to every job since, and that has been very helpful. I don’t have to walk and crawl through this kind of nasty glass if it’s not ultimately going to be fulfilling, and so that’s how I sort of moved forward from that moment. Louis-Dreyfus bonded with Larry David, who had a one-year stint as a writer on SNL during her final year because they both felt miserable on the show. She also told Colbert that her SNL experience taught her an important lesson: “ I learned I wasn’t going to do any more of this show business crap unless it was fun. She also described the set during her time in the early-to-mid '80s as " very sexist," with rampant drug use. " Louis-Dreyfus, who was an SNL cast member alongside Eddie Murphy and Billy Crystal, said she felt naïve and didn't understand the dynamics of SNL. Related: The First Seinfeld Episode Elaine Wasn't In (& Why)ĭuring a Q&A with Stephen Colbert, Julia Louis-Dreyfus revealed that her experience on Saturday Night Live was " a pretty brutal time" (via People). While on SNL, Louis-Dreyfus's recurring characters included Patti Lynn Hunnsacker, a teen correspondent on Weekend Update, and April May June, a televangelist, and she did a variety of celebrity impressions, such as Ali MacGraw and Andie MacDowell. Julia Louis-Dreyfus was on SNL for three seasons, from 1982 to 1985. Her performance at the latter's "Golden 50th Anniversary Jubilee" led to an invitation to join Saturday Night Live. Before her time on the show - long before her success as Elaine on Seinfeld - Louis-Dreyfus studied theater at Northwestern University and performed in the Chicago improvisational group The Second City, as well as Chicago-based The Practical Theatre Company. Julia Louis-Dreyfus was just 21 years old when she joined Saturday Night Live in 1982, making her the youngest female cast member at the time. The same ICSI research found that 72% of the free VPN services analyzed embedded third-party tracking tools in their software. Free VPN tools track online activity: A secure VPN should protect a user’s activity while they browse the internet, but some free VPNs do the opposite by tracking users’ online activity. Therefore, a VPN application may not always be safe when using free tools. Research report from the ICSI Networking and Security Group found that 38% of the 283 Android VPN apps studied contained some form of malware presence. Free VPN tools compromise user security: Many free VPN tools contain malware that could be used by cyber criminals to steal users’ data, gain unauthorized access to their data or machine, or launch a cyberattack.Key reasons not to use a free VPN include: Using free software is not an effective solution for ensuring VPN security because it often will not protect data and browsing activity on the internet. "Is VPN safe?" is a question everyone should be asking, and the answer is straightforward. This hides browsing information and makes it more difficult for bad actors to gather or monitor the user’s online activity. It works by connecting a user’s device to the VPN server, then passing their internet traffic through the VPN provider’s internet connection. VPN security enables users to protect their online privacy and prevent their internet service provider (ISP) from tracking their browsing activity. A VPN creates a secure tunnel between a user’s computer and the VPN server, which hides their online activity and location. This is especially important when using public Wi-Fi to prevent other people from eavesdropping on the user’s online activity and the data and information they share. If you are asking what is VPN, it is a virtual network that enables an internet user to protect themselves and their organization by creating a private web browsing session. However, VPNs won't be able to keep you safe in all scenarios. VPN security can protect from IP and encrypt internet history and is increasingly being used to prevent snooping on by government agencies. Using a reliable virtual private network (VPN) can be a safe way to browse the internet. Try to check if any new system update is available then update your device accordingly.

This is one of my favorites, one I can’t imagine living without. I have over 20 calculators on my phone for various special tasks. The ability to add text to each figure is priceless. I have various lists I keep that occasionally need to be recalculated. I’ve been using this app for years, should have reviewed it much sooner than this. I like to figure my bills a couple of months ahead I go through set everything up and for no reason the app erases everything I’ve done also agree with Steve B. Also would be nice if the keyboard didn’t pop up every time you re open the app from a minimized window it’s kinda annoying. Would be nice to be able to change the colors a bit more, it is also as free which I love. It’s very disconcerting and slows down my math considerably!Īwesome app love it use it everyday. I have to scroll down through the sometimes very long tape and find the spot where I’d just deleted the value or find the changed result of an equation. This app has been really good for years, but a couple months ago it started having a problem: whenever I delete a value in the list of equations, CalcTape suddenly scrolls all the way up to the top of the tape. Awesome tool, exactly what I was looking for Easy to save calc runs, and even allows you to place in line text so that you can remember what each section was when you ran it. Anthony even controls the television programming for the whole town, and everyone must tell him how much they enjoy his programming more than what used to be on television. Similarly, in this episode of The Twilight Zone, a little boy named Anthony has supernatural powers and is also telepathic, so he’ll basically kill you if you even think a bad thought about him.Īs a result, everyone in his community and even his caretakers are forced to walk on eggshells around the little boy if they want to live. “It’s a Good Life” was probably an inspiration for the 2012 film Looper, in which a young boy with telekinetic powers threatens the entire world. While Wordsworth may have been declared obsolete, the lesson he imparts in this episode is surely still relevant today. Wordsworth accepts his death with grace and courage, all while defending his right to pursue his own passions as a human being. Without revealing too much about the ending of the episode, Wordsworth is essentially able to show the world just how flimsy the authority of the totalitarian state is. Wordsworth is given the freedom to choose how and when he is going to die, and he makes a very interesting request. It doesn’t take long for the people of the town to start accusing each other of being aliens and committing acts of violence against the neighbors that they’ve lived next to for their entire lives. Not long after, electrical anomalies start to occur, which makes everyone in the town wonder if they’re in the midst of an alien invasion. The episode begins with a UFO appearing over a small suburban town. One of the greatest aspects of The Twilight Zone is the show’s ability to bring the darkest parts of human nature to light, and “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street” does that perhaps better than any other episode. It’s a dimension we call the Twilight Zone. But, in this article, I’ll try to narrow it down to just the very best episodes ever made. Other films like Jacob’s Ladder, Ex Machina, Ruby Sparks, and The Box can all claim The Twilight Zone as their conceptual parent.Īll 156 episodes of this iconic series are mind-bending entertainment that has had a lasting effect on pop culture. The 1998 film The Truman Show starring Jim Carrey is loosely based on an episode of The Twilight Zone. The amount of subsequent media that was inspired by the original episodes of The Twilight Zone is absolutely astounding. The man was a visionary and the result of his vision was a show with mind-boggling sci-fi concepts, incredible screenwriting, great acting, and an overall aura of intrigue and mystery. He was also the show’s head writer and executive producer. He appears at the beginning of every episode to introduce the premise and then typically appears again somewhere near the end of the episode to recite a thought-provoking proverb. What makes The Twilight Zone so special? Well, first of all, the host, Rod Serling, is just about the coolest dude of all time. And, after five minutes of tuning in, there was no going back, I was hooked. My first introduction to this outstanding program was as a child scrolling through the channels and then accidentally landing on The Twilight Zone, at which point I decided to give it a chance. Feel free to disagree, but at least acknowledge the profound impact that The Twilight Zone has had on the sci-fi genre and on the television industry in general. Dare I say, The Twilight Zone is the greatest television show of all time. Silver Efex Pro 2: High Structure preset applied (right) Both these adjustments affect the image differently, so play around with them and see which one works for your image. On the right panel, the “Reduce” sub-option gives you two main methods to take away noise – either via the contrast or color. The loupe view (circled in red), shows the applied noise reduction on the right side – this view is at 100%. In the image above, the little squares denote what the software determined were areas requiring noise measurement. This allows the quick reduction of noise in your photos while retaining the edges, and in one click applies the calculated noise reduction to the image. Dfine selects areas of your image and generates a “noise profile”. Image noise characteristics deviate with exposure length, ISO settings and even temperature based on your camera. Dfineĭfine is Nik’s answer to noise reduction. Layering equates to endless possibilities for your final edit. In the example shown, the Tonal Contrast preset was applied to the original image, then layered with the Sunlight filter. It strives to pay homage to techniques used by photographers many years ago, and will help transport your image back in time.Ĭolor Efex Pro 4: Tonal Contrast (middle)Ĭolor Efex Pro 4: Sunlight filter (right) If you love the images produced by older cameras, or want to add a vintage look to your photo, Analog Efex Pro may be the set that appeals to you. Take note of this, as it will be referenced and elaborated on below, as the various plug-ins are discussed. A control point, as the name implies, is a way to control the application of a filter to selected areas of your choice. If you click any of them, the chosen filter is immediately applied to your preview, and you then have sub-options for that filter listed on the right panel, which gives you further control over its application.Īn awesome feature that the Nik Collection utilizes is called Control Points, which is available in each plug-in. Preset filters are listed down the left side panel of the dashboard. The layout in each set is very similar, which translates to ease of use once you get the hang of it. As you see, the suite is quite extensive, thus this overview will just touch on its potential uses, and hopefully encourage you to further explore the collection more in-depth. The Nik Collection is comprised of Analog Efex Pro, Color Efex Pro, Dfine, HDR Efex Pro, Sharpener Pro, Silver Efex Pro and Viveza. The Nik Collection, as it has been known for over a decade, is a set of photographic filter plug-ins, and image enhancement tools, that delivers another look and feel to your photo. By now, if you have not downloaded Google’s Nik Collection, at the very least you have heard that this once $500 software, was made free for download in March 2016. Sour Nerds are big and they usually come in Lightning Lemon and Amped Apple.Willy Wonka has also come up with several spin-off products of Nerds: Watermelon and Rainbow (Green and Mixed Colors).Watermelon and Punch and Grape and Punch (Green and White and Purple and White).Mango Chile and Guava (yellow and pink).Watermelon and Punch and Wildberry (green and blue).Surf 'n Turf- Totally Tropical Punch and Road Rash Raspberry (red and blue).Sour- Lightning Lemon and Amped Apple (yellow and light green).Double Dipped Lemonade-Wild Cherry and Apple-Watermelon (red and yellow).Wild Cherry and Watermelon (orange or red and green).A Nerds breakfast cereal based on the concept appeared in the 1980s with two varieties (Orange and Cherry/Grape and Strawberry), but it had a short lifespan.Īlthough many other flavors are available, some of the current regular flavors of Nerds include the following: Nerds consist of various flavors and colors, ranging from extremely sweet to extremely sour often, the two flavors in one box will contrast, and a single flavor may even exhibit both extremes. According to Rob Bricken, "A squishier Nerd with more leg space and a surprise in the middle, Dweebs were more substantial, less sour, and displayed a greater depth and complexity than Nerds." Dweebs only lasted a very short time on the market, however. One of the most popular differences is that Dweebs contained three flavors instead of two, though the United Kingdom had a box of Nerds with three flavors for a limited time. Dweebs were very similar to Nerds but they were less sour and bigger in size. Nerds also had a close cousin in the '80s- Dweebs. Nerds were a popular candy in the 1980s, but they had big competitors, including Pop Rocks, Candy Buttons, and Mike and Ike. (One serving of Nerds is equivalent to 60 calories, mostly from carbohydrates, with little fat or protein.) The Halloween hand-out size is typically 15 grams (0.53 oz), and the larger boxes contain 141.7 grams (5.00 oz). The artificial coloring varies by flavor." The allergy warnings of this candy state that Nerds are created "in a facility that also produces wheat and egg." The normal serving size is one tablespoon-about 15 grams. The rest of the candy contains less than 2 percent of corn syrup, artificial flavors, carnauba wax and artificial coloring. The top three ingredients are dextrose, sugar and malic acid. The article "Nerds Candy Nutrition" states, "Nerds primarily consist of sugar. They are thickly glazed with carnauba wax, which gives them a hard bite and a gloss. These optically clear monoclinic crystals are about 0.2–1 mm in length and help define the irregular shape. The nucleus of each candy is composed of one or more complete sucrose crystals. Certain flavor combinations are frequently packaged together, such as grape and strawberry, the most popular pairing in the United States. The contents of the barrels are then transferred to boxes, which are divided into two compartments by a vertical partition so each half of the box contains a different flavor. Their original color is pure white they receive their colors in separate barrels. A factory worker states, "Basically we start off with a sugar crystal and we just keep coating it with more sugar." The factory spins huge barrel-like containers of sugar crystals, which receive coats of sugar until the Nerds are formed. The television show Unwrapped explains how Nerds are made. With their anthropomorphic covers, Nerds usually contain two flavors per box, and each flavor has a separate compartment and opening. Nerds are now made by the Ferrara Candy Company, a subsidiary of Ferrero Group. Nerds is an American candy launched in 1983 by the Sunmark Corporation under the brand name Willy Wonka Candy Company. American confection launched in 1983 Nerds It also shows how many separate processes are part of a program too: Google Chrome has 12 running processes, but Microsoft Edge has a staggering 41 different processes! Combined, however, Edge is still only using 0.5% CPU and 1GB (okay, 1,079MB) of RAM, along with barely interacting with the disk and network. This lets you dig in and see what apps are consuming the most CPU resource, memory, hitting the disk the more frequently and even reaching out on the network. Launch Task Manager and you’ll see what I mean: Task Manager might seem like an odd place to find out more about your overall PC performance, but it appears that the developers snuck an entirely different set of features into the program too, including a far more informative user interface. Instead of “performance”, search for “task” and you’ll see a different program surfaces: Fortunately, there are better choices in Win11. Reading news pages through Edge is not very demanding, as is clear.ĭig into Performance > Monitoring Tools > Performance Monitor on the left side and you can even get a somewhat crude graphical representation of CPU usage:įunctional, somewhat, but an interface that only a Windows 95 – or Windows 3.1! – user is going to love. On my PC I can see that about 55% of my allocated RAM is in use, and that my PC is chugging along smoothly with 97.5% idle time. The information shown in Performance Monitor, however, is darn useful. The app icon makes it seem very modern but, um, it’s not so much, as is immediately obvious when you launch it: You can find it by searching for “performance” directly in the Taskbar search: If you’re a long-time Windows user, you might appreciate the somewhat tired interface of Performance Monitor, a program that’s been a part of Windows for many generations of updates. Well, it turns out that Microsoft Windows 11 doesn’t just have a performance monitor, it has three entirely different programs that can help you identify what’s going on! Let’s check them out… THE OG: PERFORMANCE MONITOR! But how do you ascertain what’s going on to cause the problem? Shortcuts: Performance Monitor | Task Manager | Xbox Game Bar If it’s a more frequent problem, however, it often points to a resource limitation which can be fixed by increasing that resource (think “RAM upgrade”, as an example) or tweaking the offending program to be less demanding on resources (most modern PC games have optional settings to decrease computer demand to speed things up). I’m sure you’ve experienced this!Īlmost always, it’s not a big deal on a computer, being exhibited by a slight lag on input or activity once in a while. Without getting too complicated, it means that even if everyone is told they get the same two minutes to speak, some people will go over, and sometimes even wayyyy over. That means that if an app, say Microsoft Word, is given a “quantum”, a tiny interval, to run a few lines of code while it’s front and center, sometimes our apps request a resource, memory, or run a process that forces it to gain more time from the task scheduler. While modern computers are pretty darn good at multitasking, the reality is that even with multiple CPUs, your computer is still essentially bouncing from task to task in fractions of a millisecond to accomplish this feat. |
